6cyclemind is the newest artist of BMG Records Pilipinas with their debut album Permission To Shine. They are the band to watch out for in the Philippine music industry with their single ‘Biglaan’ topping the charts of the country’s popular radio stations. They have been on the number 1 spot for eight consecutive weeks already in NU107’s Midnight Countdown, two consecutive weeks in RX 93.1’s Weekly Countdown, number 1 in the Daily survey, and is within the top 10 of KOOL 106’s OPM Countdown. The single is also gaining much popularity among other local radio stations.

THEIR MUSIC:

One could label the music of 6cyclemind as “alternative/pop crossover”, which is basically a fusion of alternative music and pop music; the music sounds very young and fresh with cutting edge. The songs are very commercial and after listening to the songs a few times, one would definitely be hooked. The songs convey positive themes with the hope of alleviating our plight in these difficult times.

They do covers from the likes of Incubus, Vertical Horizon, Matchbox 20, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Beatles, Puddle of Mud and the like

BAND HISTORY

One could call the birth of this band a twist of fate, six people crossing paths, brought together by a common musical influences and a common desire for expressing themselves through music. Thus, they were called ‘6cyclemind’ - a unanimous decision made by the group and some friends on how the newly formed band will be called.
The band started last June 2001 when Darwin Hernandez, former manager and one of the songwriters of Moonstar88, decided to form a band after taking a short time out.
Ney. He was the main vocalist of ‘Angel in Disguise’, a very young pop-alternative band also managed by Darwin before. This is the band where Herbert Hernandez of Moonstar88 started in. After staying in Tarlac and being away from the band scene for some time, he decided to move back permanently to Manila and continue what he really likes doing. Ney and Darwin reunite through 6cyclemind. He will be the man giving voice to the band’s music.

Chuck. It was perfect timing because Chuck (album producer of Moonstar88) also expressed his desire to play with a new band. It had been a while since his band ‘After Image’ played full time. He was playing in other bands but he was looking for something more serious. He expressed this desire to Darwin who he sees will be the manager of the soon-to-be-formed group. He will be the lead guitarist of the band obviously.

Rye. Rye was referred by Ney since they were close high school classmates and band mates back in Tarlac. More than a guitarist, Rye becomes one of the main songwriters for 6cyclemind, with his musical creations blending well with the band’s pop-alternative influence.

Bobby. Darwin and Bobby’s relationship goes a long way back. Neighbors since childhood, they have been friends since they could remember. It was their dream as kids to be musicians, and through 6cyclemind they are one step closer to achieving this dream. Bobby’s natural love for music will give the band the groundwork they will need. Bobby was also the bassist of ‘Angel in Disguise’, together with Ney.

Gilbert. He was the last fit to the puzzle. After a long search for a drummer that will complete the group, Gilbert’s drumbeat was the energy that 6cyclemind’s music needed. Gilbert was referred by Herbert Hernandez of Moonstar88; they are both under the ‘Backbeat Management.’
